Mayor’s Column: Voorhees to host 2016 World Selects Invitational Hockey Tournament

Voorhees Mayor

Voorhees Township is honored to host the 2016 “World Selects Invitational Hockey Tournament” at our very own Skate Zone. This year’s event will include six teams from Europe and 16 teams from North America.

The tournament has evolved from a boys’ hockey program formed in 2003 called “Selects Hockey.” They had a simple goal in mind; to provide top ice hockey players with an opportunity to compete against, develop and play with the top teams and players from around the world.

The Selects Hockey Program was quickly recognized for its commitment to work with dedicated, talented young hockey players from around the globe, and it has grown exponentially. Beyond vast hockey accomplishments, they are proud to nurture a healthy learning environment where players are able to gain life and leadership skills while pursuing their athletic goals. The Selects Hockey Program has become the premier program for hockey player development. LEGACY Global Sports manages this tournament, along with over 30 other events around the world throughout the year.

Nationally, these events attract hundreds of teams from around the world to participate in multiple sporting events every year, with thousands of players, coaches, family and friends attending. They project over 80,000 attendees annually at their events, occupying over 46,000 hotel room nights.

This very prestigious event will drive patrons to Voorhees’ hotels, restaurants and other local businesses.

Please join me in welcoming guests from around the world from May 18–22 and show them the hospitality for which Voorhees has become known!
