Voorhees residents invited to second annual Citizen’s Police Academy

Training begins on March 14 at the Voorhees Police Department and offers residents an exclusive look at how the department functions on a daily basis.

Voorhees residents are invited to see what it’s like to be a police officer at their second Citizen’s Police Academy. It begins on Tuesday, March 14 and training will take place Tuesday nights from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The training will conclude with a graduation ceremony on May 23.

The training will take place at police headquarters, located at 1180 White Horse Road, and several off-site locations. This course will offer our residents an inside exclusive look at the training and behind the scenes activities that make the Voorhees Police Department function in a professional, effective, and efficient manner on a daily basis.

“This is yet another program that we feel will expand our community-based efforts,” said Voorhees Police Chief Louis Bordi. “It will continue to keep open lines of communication and create a better understanding for the community about police officer operations, specifically here in Voorhees.”

The course will cover:

  • Firearms Simulator Training
  • Crime Scene Investigation/Mock Crime Scene
  • Traffic Unit/Mock Car Stops
  • Internal Affairs/Body Worn Cameras
  • Community Affairs/School Safety/Domestic Violence
  • K-9 Unit demonstrations and meet and greet with police dogs
  • Police use of force/police stress
  • A tour of Police Headquarters
  • Patrol and Investigations Bureaus
  • Central Communications Center (911) Tour

This course will host approximately 30 Voorhees residents, ages 18 and over. Applicants will be required to successfully pass a background examination including warrant, NCIC, driver’s license checks, and New Jersey and Interstate Criminal History checks. Those who are accepted will be notified via email. Selected applicants will also need to complete a waiver of liability form.
